Elements of Literary Study: The Physics of Writing about Literature

EN200 has thus far been rather consumed by close discussion about the literature we’ve read thus far–I’ve been attempting to model some methods of analysis, as well as to stimulate debate and discussion. We are moving into our first major assignment, now, and I feel we’ve got a good set of basic vocabularies and discourses in place. Today, we’ll be looking closely at two sets of student responses to go over quotation use, framing and introduction, and documentation.

While the discussion has been going very well, and students are grasping the language of the discipline and its methods, I’m concerned about attendance issues. This is a small class to begin with, and yet a couple have dropped; added to this, several routinely enter late or without their materials, so I’ll need to address this today.
